SEYMOUR, INDIANA CHAPTER
You have a home in PFLAG
We're glad you found our web site!
You might be a parent struggling to accept your gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered child. You might be gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered and wondering how, or even if, you can tell your parents about your sexuality or wanting to find other people who are like you. Wherever you are in your journey, PFLAG Seymour Chapter is here to support you in your next step.
Seymour PFLAG was founded in January of 1995 because there was a local need for support and education and the existing PFLAG chapters were not close enough to our community. Since 1995, our chapter has been providing support and education to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families and friends. The Seymour PFLAG chapter has a mailing list that reaches over one hundred households in our community and surrounding areas.
We have a seven-member elected Board of Directors and are a chartered non-profit organization. Our chapter belongs to the National PFLAG organization, based in Washington D.C. Members of our PFLAG chapter are welcome to join the National parent organization.
One of the main goals of PFLAG is to keep families together. To facilitate this goal, we provide a safe place for ALL members of the family to share their feelings and experiences with others who have been down the same road.
The Seymour Chapter of PFLAG meets the fourth Sunday of every month.
Please call 812-498-2380 or email email@example.com for more information.
Our PFLAG meetings consist of an educational or social program (speakers, videos, holiday party, etc.) followed by a break for refreshments and fellowship and then small support group sessions. Our meetings normally last approximately two hours and all are invited to attend part or all of the meeting. When attending the PFLAG monthly meeting, please plan to stay for the small group sessions after the meeting. These general discussion groups -- the heart of PFLAG -- are designed for confidential sharing of concerns in a community of caring people who listen, learn and grow. Whether you are attending for the first time or are a regular attendee, you will find support from those who attend the small groups. Sometimes we nurture, sometimes we seek to be nurtured. In the small groups you will find that you always have a home in PFLAG! Everyone is invited to participate at the level at which he/she feels comfortable. In order to provide a safe place for everyone strict confidentiality is maintained. All persons who support our mission are welcome to attend our meetings.
What is PFLAG?
PFLAG is a national non-profit organization organized in more than 440 communities in all 50 states, and represents more than 80,000 member households, donors and supporters. Chapters range in size from a few families to several hundred in regular attendance. PFLAG is best known for local support groups, and they remain the heart of PFLAG’s work in communities. Particularly in rural states, PFLAG is often the only source of information about homosexuality and gender identity, and the only regular support for those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender or care about someone who is. As an organization that believes that change happens on the grassroots level in local communities, it is PFLAG’s top priority to support the work of local affiliates. The Regional Directors and the Field, Program and Policy Department work to strengthen local affiliates through providing resources, technical assistance and training.
We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes theparticipation and support of all who share in, and hope to realize, this vision.
Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual andtransgendered persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society
