The importance and benefits of being licensed.
While the license is primarily for the protection of the children in care, it also helps the caregiver in many important ways:
- A licensed caregiver can expect professional respect from parents and the community.
- A licensed caregiver can provide care for children in the subsidized child care programs which provide government funding to help low income parents pay for child care.
- A licensed caregiver can participate in the Department of Education, Child Care Food Program to get reimbursement for food provided to children.
- A licensed caregiver can more easily obtain appropriate insurance coverage and would be in a better position legally should an accident involving a child in his/her care occur.
- A licensed caregiver can advertise as a licensed provider for clients.
- A licensed caregiver is a legitimate business operator and, as such, can purchase many supplies and services with a business discount and is eligible for important money saving tax deductions.
- A licensed provider can compete for grant dollars.
- Your license tells parents that you are a professional.
