Leadership Jackson County - Making A Difference

Early in 1982, the Greater Seymour Chamber of Commerce had the foresight to respond to a request from the Lilly Foundation asking communities to apply for funding to develop leadership programs. The Chamber financed the writing of the grant and their proposal was accepted in late summer with the Chamber listed as the funding organization. The Chamber continued financial support through June of 1985 and today they are a strong advocate for the program.

Upon receiving the base funding, Leadership Greater Seymour, governed by a Board of Directors, was established. Marjorie W. Klinck was hired as Project Director and the first class began in September of 1982.

As interest in the program spread to county residents, the Board decided a name change would be appropriate. At the February 1985 meeting, the Board voted to expand the Leadership program activities and the name was changed to Leadership Jackson County.

This year, 2006 we are proudly celebrating our 25th year of involvement and improvement in the Leadership of Jackson County, Indiana.
